In 2008, four young Nepali men went to the Middle East as migrant workers. Their experience was captured in the film, In Search of Riyal. At this time, over two million Nepalis worked in the Gulf States and Malaysia, including a large percentage of the country’s young men between the ages of 18 and 40. Their earnings sustained every third household. Twelve years later, in retreading the trajectory of these four men, we are afforded a chronicle of their ordinary and yet remarkable journeys, a glimpse into their motivations, gains, and losses over more than a decade.
