Nani is preparing for a dance performance in the upcoming National Children’s Day event at her school. Meanwhile, her mother gets a job making scarecrows for the fields of all the villagers. The job must be completed soon, but Nani’s mother cannot manage to do so while still taking care of her younger child. Hence, it falls upon Nani, the only girl among her three siblings, to take care of her younger brother. Eventually, she is forced to let go of not only her dream of performing at the event, but also her education, to help her family survive.

Rajesh Prasad Khatri, a self-taught filmmaker, works as a teacher in the school of his village. A Curious Girl (2017), his debut short film, won Special Prize at the Berlinale Generation Kplus Competition, Germany and Best Short Film at KIMFF. A Scarecrow won second prize at the Asian Film Academy-Motion Picture Association film pitch competition, the 75th UNICEF Iris award at the UNICEF Innocenti Film Festival in Italy, and Best Educational Short Film at the Children’s Film Festival of Wales. Khatri is currently, he is developing his debut feature Black and White Photo, which was selected at the Asian Project Market, BIFF-2019 and Berlinale Talents (Script Station) and received the Script Development Fund of the Asian Cinema Fund at BIFF. He is an alumnus of the Asian Film Academy-2018 and Berlinale Talents Campus-2020.
